Hopefully you’ve received all your festively themed stock and are ready for the busy Christmas trading period to go into full swing. But have you remembered to cater for your bird keeping customers?

Although it is a niche market, there is still plenty of opportunity to increase your profits over one the busiest trading times in the pet trade calendar. - take me to Parrot Christmas Toys and Treats

Parrots and pet birds are valued members of the family, and given their long-life expectancy, they celebrate Christmas year after year with their human companions.

Being curious creatures, they are naturally drawn to the many items we decorated our homes with - fairy lights, holly, ivy, mistletoe, real trees and tinsel for example. Plus, there tends to be a more abundant supply of chocolate, alcohol, avocado and foods with a high salt content such as peanuts. All of which pose a danger to your customer’s feathered companions.

It’s definitely worth reminding your bird keeping customers about the dangers these impose, as finding an avian vet in an emergency over the holidays isn’t an easy task!

Having a vast array of toys keeps Parrots mentally enriched and prevents unwanted behaviours, and at this time of year stocking festive themed toys and treats allows you to provide your bird keeping customers with fun, stimulating and more importantly safe materials for their Parrots to enjoy and celebrate this holiday season with their human companions

Wood and rope toys continue to be popular, Parrots just love chewing wood, it helps to keep their beak nice and trim. Rope fibres are great for keeping beaks happy and occupied with material to unravel and preen on. Providing toys birds can use for preening can help reduce unwanted over preening behaviours.

Parrots adore toys that are as loud as them, so consider stocking noise-making items; bells and rattle are perfect. The delightful chiming noises they make lets birds jingle all the way.

Willow and palm toys, as well as cardboard and paper toys, are great for providing chewable foraging experiences, combining the best of both worlds; beak pleasing fun with a mentally stimulating activity.
